Erik has served the Austin Community as a financial advisor since 2013. He holds a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Texas State University. As a Principal of Cadence Wealth Management, Erik embodies the tenets of servant leadership and strength in collaboration. He works actively alongside his team and encourages collaboration within their diverse collective experience. His thoughtful leadership delivers exceptional service and success for clients.
When his family experienced a medical crisis, Erik learned first-hand that helping families plan for the unexpected was the most meaningful path he could pursue. This first-hand experience gives Erik a unique perspective and insight.
When it comes to the team’s community service efforts, Erik leads by example. An enthusiastic philanthropist, he supports numerous local organizations, including Black Fret, Helping Hand Home, and Family Legacy. In his free time, you can find Erik spoiling his niece and nephews, sailing on Lake Travis, or running with his standard poodle, Finn.
Justin Wiseman’s career in financial services began after 13 years as a touring musician and songwriter. His music career took him all over the world, affording countless opportunities to participate in music’s ability to enrich people’s lives. Being able to meaningfully connect with and inspire others is what initially drew him to financial services. Justin has a Bachelor’s in Math Education from Abilene Christian University, and he draws on his teaching background to help empower his clients to achieve their financial goals.
Outside of work, you can find Justin on stage playing piano at his church, where he serves as part of the music ministry. Justin also regularly volunteers with Mobile Loaves and Fishes. As a dedicated father, he enjoys spending quality time with his wife Whitney and elementary-aged children Byron and Lucy.
Karen Porter, a lifelong Austinite, has worked in the financial services industry since 1983 and has been an integral team member of Cadence since 1997. Clients appreciate her engaging personality and “How can I help?” attitude. They agree that Karen gets it right the first time and follows through with incredible tenacity and attention to detail.
Karen is licensed for life and health insurance and holds securities licenses 6 and 63. Her responsibilities include client service, database management, underwriting, accounting, purchasing, and keeping the entire office running smoothly. Karen has two grown children and is an energetically devoted “Memaw” to three wonderful grandchildren.
Our founder, Dennis, has retired. A Maryland native, Dennis entered the financial services industry in 1988 after a successful career with Shell Oil Company and Shell Pipeline Corporation. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland. There, he was president of Pi Tau Sigma and a member of Tau Beta Pi engineering honor societies. Dennis also earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Houston.
An award-winning advisor with over 30 years of experience, Dennis holds some of the most coveted certifications and memberships in the industry. He is a licensed Chartered Financial Consultant® (ChFC®) and Chartered Life Underwriter® (CLU®).
Dennis is a graduate of The Strategic Coach Program, and a financial adviser for Eagle Strategies LLC. He’s a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, and the Estate Planning Council of Central Texas.
An Austin resident since 1988, Dennis has served the community at The Lost Creek Neighborhood Association, as Ambassador for the Austin Chamber of Commerce, and in the Founder Lions Club of Austin. An active member of his local church, he volunteers with one- to two-year-olds and Mobile Loaves and Fishes. He is an avid car enthusiast and is the owner/mechanic of a flamed, black, 1940 Ford Tudor Deluxe hot rod.
Susan Nowstrup holds a Bachelor of Business Administration with honors from Stephen F. Austin State University. She was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honor Society, an officer in Alpha Chi Honor Society, and the recipient of the highest-ranking senior award.
After three years in corporate finance, Susan entered the financial services industry in 1984. She completed the Certified Financial Planner designation in 1988, making her a pioneer in the field.
Susan is an active member of Austin Ridge Bible Church, where she and Dennis volunteer with the toddlers. She also volunteers with Drive a Senior and with leads two Mobile Loaves and Fishes teams. She enjoys gardening, good books, photography, and hiking.
